Electric Skoda Octavia Estate: A Glimpse Into the Future

Skoda has revealed details of its upcoming Electric Skoda Octavia Estate, the Vision O concept, set to debut at the Munich Motor Show in September 2025. Inspired by the original Mk1 Octavia from the late 1990s, the Vision O will preview the first fully electric version of the brand’s best-selling estate model, which will enter production by the end of the decade.

This concept will set the tone for Skoda’s future electric design language while paying homage to its long-standing estate heritage.

Vision O Concept Honors the Octavia Legacy

  • The Electric Skoda Octavia Estate is Skoda’s first legacy nameplate to switch fully to battery-electric power.
  • CEO Klaus Zellmer emphasized the importance of the estate format, noting that more than 3 million Octavia estates have been sold globally since 1998.
  • The Vision O combines modern aerodynamics with classic Octavia design cues, including a steeply raked windscreen and gently sloping roofline.

Modern Solid Design Language

The Vision O continues Skoda’s new Modern Solid design philosophy:

  • Fewer decorative elements, with a greater focus on aerodynamics.
  • T-shaped rear lights, a rakish roofline, and new proportions.
  • A family-oriented design that blends practicality, reliability, and modern styling.

Daniel Edr, project manager for the Vision O, described it as a “return to roots” with functionality at its core, while exterior designer Jounggeen Kim called it an “all-in-one” estate tailored for family and business needs.

Built on VW’s New SSP Platform

Originally planned for Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, the Electric Skoda Octavia Estate will now use the upcoming SSP architecture.

  • SSP offers better performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Production is expected by the late 2020s, around the same time as the Volkswagen ID Golf.
  • This marks a convergence point between Skoda’s combustion and electric lineups.

Skoda’s Wider EV and Hybrid Roadmap

Before the electric Octavia estate launches, Skoda plans to release:

  • Epiq EV (2026): An affordable small electric crossover (sibling to VW ID.2 and Cupra Raval).
  • Vision 7S EV SUV (2026): A large electric family SUV, Skoda’s most premium EV to date.

At the same time, Skoda will continue offering hybrids and mild-hybrids across the Fabia, Kamiq, Scala, Superb, and Kodiaq to meet Euro 7 regulations. Plug-in hybrids with electric-only ranges up to 100 km (62 miles) will also expand, giving consumers the flexibility of both combustion and electric power.

Why the Electric Skoda Octavia Estate Matters

The Electric Skoda Octavia Estate isn’t just another concept car. It represents:

  • Skoda’s commitment to electrifying its most iconic models.
  • A balance between heritage design and modern sustainability.
  • A practical, family-oriented electric estate for a global audience.

With the Octavia being Skoda’s best-selling model worldwide, the Vision O could become one of the most important steps in Skoda’s EV journey.
